About TSTM (OLYMPIAD) Exam

Bihar Mathematical Society (BMS) was established in the chairmanship of Prof (Dr.) B N.Prasad on 1st February 1958 at Bhagalpur. He was the first Indian to be awaded the state D.Sc Degree in Mathematics of the University of Paris and long after did Ph.D from Liverpool in 1931.The aim and objective of society is to provide a common platform for teachers, scientists and research scholars from different parts of country to exchange ideas for improvement in the field of Mathematics. The aim of society is to encourage and promote studies and research works in India and beyond the sea. Its work is to compile, publish journals, books and reports.The Society also invite outstanding scholars to deliver memorial and special lectures on their own contributions. Bihar Mathematical Society has been publishing its journal named as “Journal of the Bihar Mathematical Society” (JBMS) since 1961.

1. Talent Search Test in Mathematics Olympiad :

Bihar Mathematical Society has been organising Talent Search Test in Mathematics (TSTM) since 1993 for school going students of standards VIII and IX in all over Bihar. It was also started from 2002 for the students for the class of VI and VII. The Society has been organising TSTM Olympiad for class VI to XII from 2020. In the light of Director Secondary Education Dept. Govt. of Bihar vide letter No 276 dated 21.05.2019 a committee of Mission Gunvatta Siksha Samiti (MGSS) is constituted in each district in the chairmanship of District Education Officer in order to motivate young students towards Mathematical olympiads. The Primary and Secondary teacher associations of Bihar requested all teachers as well as headmasters of Bihar and impelled all school students to participate in TSTM olympiad of BMS

2. Aims and Objectives of the TSTM :

The main aim of the TSTM olympiad is to locate the hidden talent among young children and then to motivate them towards rational thinking and prepare them from the earliest stage for the Mathematical olympiads and other Mathematical contests. Such test is sure to remove phobia of Mathematics and to make the students academically competent to appear for various competitive examinations. We search the talented students and honour them to inspire by awarding prize. A training programme for TSTM olympiad is conducted by subject experts may be arranged for intending candidates.The successful candidates in the merit list will be said TSTM winners.

3. Training Programme :

A training programme must be conducted either online or offline by subject expert in each district. The students are selected on their performance in the written and oral test. The emphasis will be laid on strengthening the foundation giving exposure to Mathematical concepts and training the students on the art of asking right questions while solving problems. This is to be achieved through the mode of intense interaction of the students with the training faculty. The role of the faculty will be to raise relevant questions to keep the students on the right track while leaving them to solve the problems on their own.

4. Empanalment of Teachers for training :

Those who are interested to be partner in the endeavour and willing to spend at least 10 days as Mentors every year during the conduct of the programme are welcome to join the Registry online on www.bmsbihar.org or offline contact with Convener cum Executive Joint Secretary of BMS office at Patna or convener MGSS in District.

5. Examination Board :

There has been formed an examination board to conduct the examinations of TSTM Olympiad.A committee has been made to control thee examination in the controllership of Dr.D.N.Sharma, former Prof of Mathematics Patna College Patna.

6. Eligibility :

Regular students of standard VI to XII from any recognized school of India are eligible to participate in TSTM Olympiad Maximum age for an applicant will be counted from 31.03.2020.

7. Examination Centres :

TSTM Examination will be conducted at certain specified towns of Bihar. However, it may also be conducted in other towns provided the number of participants in that town is not less than 1000, they will be required to appear at Patna centre or nearby home District. Student will have to appear at the given centre at their own cost.

8. Examination Pattern :

The questions for written examination will be of subjective type. There will be no negative marking .Two and half hours will be given to answer the questions.

9. Examination Results :

Merit list will be prepared only for successful candidates.The successful candidates in the merit list, called the TSTM winners. A copy of the result will be published for the winners in the office of BMS Patna and it also will be uploaded on the website of BMS.

10. Medals and Certificates :

Top three rank holders in each group will be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals along with cash prize and remaining winners will be given each a certificate of merit and consolation prize. Any Institution/Person actively contributing in organising the TSTM olympiad will be awarded by BMS for their cooperation.

Publication of Result - 5 May 2022

Date of felicitation program - 22 May 2022

Orientation program - 01-21 June 2022

12. How to Apply :

Application forms and fee of TSTM may be submitted online on website www.bmsbihar.org of BMS. Offline applications can be downloaded from the website and it can be submitted to the office of BMS.

13. Application Fee for TSTM :

Applicants will have to pay one hundred Rupees (Rs100/-) for examination fees and those who are desirous for training will have to pay two hundred and fifty Rupees (Rs 250/-) as examination fees for TSTM Olympiad. The fee may also be paid through the bank draft/cheque drawn in favour of Bihar Mathematical Society payable at Patna. It can be submitted to Dr Vijay Kumar,Convener cum Executive Joint Secretary BMS at College of Commerce,Arts and Science , Patna or Convener Mission Gunvatta Siksha Samiti in Each District.
